Mediator's Proposal Expected Tuesday

Brian Foley's non-binding "enhance mediation" is apparently expected Tuesday morning. Voting should occur next week on Thursday or Friday.

Approval requires a simple majority of 50% + 1 by CUPE members. City management & Metro (GVRD) Vancouver Labour Bureau must also approve the vote.

If all goes well city staff could return to work after Thanksgiving.

It depends on how both sides respond to mediator's take on "No Layoffs Due to Contracting Out, " Auxiliary Scheduling, and the 2010 Olympic Agreement between staff and management.

I heard the recommendations might not come in until Thanksgiving weekend, so it could be another two weeks or more until people could get back to work. At this point, won't most impoverished, depressed, disillusioned picketers just vote "yes" to any agreement?

Where on earth are these speculations coming from? I find it interesting that Picket Boy has more information than my own VPL blog, which hasn't even bothered to explain how the mediation has moved from Debbie Cameron to Brian Foley. Not like we would know what that means anyways. But that is the fault of the union for not explaining. I guess all they care about are the hot dog stands...
